Read Across America
Heritage Community Initiatives partnered with United States Steel Corporation (U. S. Steel) to bring guest readers to celebrate Read Across America day at the 4 Kids Early Learning Center on Friday, March 1, 2013. Guest readers from U.S. Steel and the community will read books about safety. Books included Emergency Call 911, Never Talk to Strangers, My Mom is a Firefighter, and Billy Bully. Readers included State Representative Paul Costa, a long-time advocate of education for District 34 which includes Braddock; Braddock Mayor John Fetterman; Staff Sergeant Nick Davis, U.S. Army Recruiter; Braddock Police Officer Guy Collins, and Edgewood Fire Chief Dave Andrews. Also reading is Patricia Waldinger, CEO, American Red Cross Western Pennsylvania Region, an organization whose mission is to help keep our families and communities safe. Every classroom and every student will receive a copy of the book that is read in the classroom courtesy of U. S. Steel. Eat’n Park Restaurants also provided Mini Smiley Cookies for each classroom.
